Long standing history of proven results
Overview
At Avenue Advanced Skin Care, we believe our patients deserve to benefit from the latest, most advanced treatments. Having a renowned plastic surgeon, Mr Allan Kalus, on-site means that we have access to the latest medical grade technologies. Indeed, we are very proud of be one of the first medical skin care centres in Australia to offer Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, commonly known as the “Vampire Facial”.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy started several years ago in sports medicine when scientists discovered that platelets contained unique substances called growth factors and stem cells which could stimulate internal healing and the production of new collagen. It is now a popular and effective anti-ageing and skin rejuvenating treatment to counteract the signs of ageing and sun damage. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is also a recognised treatment for premature hair loss or hair thinning in males and females by stimulating inactive hair follicles into an active growth phase.
Platelet Rich Plasma (Prp) Therapy can treat the following
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven skin tone and texture
Dull or dry skin
Crepey skin
Loss of volume
Acne scarring
Post Traumatic scars
What is PRP Therapy?
The so called ‘Vampire Facial’ gets its colloquial name from its use of a concentrate of your own blood that contains a high number of platelets. Platelets are cells in blood that are responsible for blood clotting, synthesis and release of growth factors, and for repairing damage to injury on the skin’s surface.
The use of PRP harnesses the properties of platelets to create a wound healing process to stimulate collagen production, promote tissue repair and rejuvenate the skin with stem cells and growth factors. PRP Therapy is clinically proven to provide results.
By drawing on your body’s own healing process, PRP therapy offers a natural approach to facial rejuvenation. For this reason, it is one of our most popular skin rejuvenation treatments.
PRP can be used as a sole therapy for rejuvenation purposes or it may be used in conjunction with other treatments for a multi-faceted approach, including injectable treatments and skin treatments.
Contact us on 03 9521 5533 to arrange an appointment with our cosmetic Injector to discuss how PRP can work for you.
FAQs
More than just a facial, Vampire Facials can be used to treat the face, neck, and décolletage as well as any other areas of the body that may suffer from the conditions mentioned above. PRP therapy can also be used to stimulate under-developed and under-active hair follicles to encourage hair growth.
You may experience slight swelling immediately after the treatment, which will usually disappear in 24 hours. Bruising at the site of injections can be seen for one to two weeks post PRP Therapy. This is easily covered with make-up.
Visible results may take 3-6 weeks to appear and continue for up to six months. A series of at least three treatments is recommended for best results, with 6-8 weeks in between treatments. A series of three treatments can yield results for up to two years.
Ladies who are pregnant, breast-feeding or trying to conceive are not suitable candidates for this particular treatment. Vampire Facials are also not recommended for people taking anti-coagulation medication, people suffering from autoimmune conditions, as well as acute and chronic infections; or those who have suffered any type of cancer. Your past and present medical history, as well as your past cosmetic history will be assessed during your consultation to determine your suitability.
A topical anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area to ensure minimal discomfort during the procedure. PRP therapy begins by first drawing the patient’s own blood into a specially prepared test tube, while adhering to strict universal standards involving blood handling. The blood is then spun down in the Angel centrifuge to separate out the precious platelets. One of our highly skilled injectors then injects the platelets into the area of concern. There, the activated platelets release growth factors, which facilitate cell growth, the formation of blood capillaries and, most importantly, the building of new collagen.
The process of injecting will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area.
- Keep the treated area free of oil based products, heavy cosmetics and skincare for at least four hours post treatment
- Avoid touching the face for at least two hours post treatment, to allow injection sites to heal and avoid infection
- Avoid exposure to sunlight, rigorous exercise, saunas, hot baths and excessive amounts of alcohol post treatment
- The treated area will feel tender for a few days
- It is normal to experience swelling for 24-48 hours. Use cold packs on the treated area (10 minutes on then 10 minutes off) to reduce swelling if required
- Sleeping with your head slightly elevated can also help to reduce swelling
- It is normal to experience bruising for one to two weeks after your treatment. This can be covered with makeup if required
- Avoid long-haul flights for one week post treatment
To maximise results the client must adhere to post-treatment care recommendations.
Depending on the individual, other treatments may be recommended for ideal results such as anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers. Furthermore, the health of the skin may be enhanced with skin treatments or a cosmeceutical homecare routine, which can be prescribed by our Dermal Clinicians.
